Timeless Fun at Old Fashioned Festival
Youth Quake Works on CPRD Parks
As part of a camp at George Fox University this week, Youth Quake middle school student volunteers gathered from Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Idaho performed community service at CPRD parks. We extend a big THANK YOU to Youth Quake!
Here is the breakdown.
Chehalem Cultural Center – 10 volunteers spread barkdust and weeded
Adult Enrichment Center – 10 volunteers spread barkdust and weeded
Buckley Park – 20 volunteers spread 96 yards of new cedar chips in the playground
Armory Park – 20 volunteers spread 100 yards of new cedar chips in the playground
Friends Park - 30 volunteers removed several hundred yards of invasive Himalayan blackberries as high as 15' from an old chainlink fence so that the fence can be taken out and the park developed.

Sneak Peek at the New CPRD Website
We'll be giving a sneak peek at our website redesign during Old Fashioned Festival. Stop by our booth and watch the video that will appear on the homepage. We'll also be giving demonstrations intermittently throughout the festival.
Name These People, Win a Prize
Stop by our booth at Old-Fashioned Festival Thursday through Sunday and take a shot at winning a prize. We've got some photographs from years past of folks involved in Chehalem Park & Rec activities. See how many you can identify. You could win an 18-hole round of golf at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course, a pass for four people to a public swim at the Aquatic Center, or another cool CPRD prize.

Now 2 Billiards Tables at Adult Enrichment Center
If you come to the Adult Enrichment Center on a Tuesday or a Friday morning, you should consider bringing your pool cue with you. Last week the center received a wonderful present from one of our volunteers - a gorgeous little pool table to complement our Olhausen tournament-grade table.
We have many wonderful people who play pool with us on a regular basis. They do a great job of making sure that everyone gets to play, and everyone gets help if they need it. But even the most patient pool player will start to get a little restless while waiting to rotate 12 people on one table. Jackie Hedges and Don Olesen had a solution. Thanks in large part to their efforts, the center now has a second pool table.
I started playing pool here about two years ago. It took a long time before I finally got a guest of ours to accept my invitation to play a game. Lillian had never played pool before and was not convinced that this would be something that she would be interested in doing. It literally took months of playing by myself before she agreed to play. It took half of one game for her to decide that this game was something that she enjoyed. We have not been able to get her to leave ever since. I, for one, could not be happier.
What started off as a one-man show has quickly grown into a program full or character - and characters. Jackie didn’t just donate a pool table to the Adult Enrichment Center. She gave us the capacity to include new friends in the game that we love to play. Thank you, Jackie. For anyone wondering, Lillian still plays pool with us. In fact, she beat me three times today.

Come See Us at Old Fashioned Festival!
It's time! Thursday through Sunday this week is Newberg's annual Old Fashioned Festival, and we have some fun things planned for the CPRD booth. Stop by for a sneak peek at the new CPRD website, to launch this fall. Win a prize by identifying people in photographs from bygone days of the District. Talk with our staff and board members, pick up a Dundee Skate Park T-shirt, and more. We've also got some sweet things we're getting ready for the parade. See you there!
