CPRD, City of Newberg & City of Dundee win COG Award for Chehalem Paddle Launch

The Council of Governments named Chehalem Park and Recreation District, City of Newberg & City of Dundee in the 2011 Regional Cooperative Project Award for Chehalem Paddle Launch. This award was presented at the Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments' Annual Meeting and Dinner held Wednesday, Jan. 25th at City of Dayton Community Center.

The award specifically names CPRD superintendent Don Clements, City of Newberg councillor Bart Rierson, and Dundee mayor Ted Crawford.

The project was awarded because three government agencies cooperated in raising funds to purchase equipment and materials to build CPL and contributed countless hours to various building efforts, equipment refurbishing and vegetation clearing from the banks to improve access to the river at the Dundee site. Due to their combined efforts, CPL was an immediate success and was open this past summer for seasonal operations on Saturdays and Sundays.

Mayor Bob Andrews states, "It is a pleasure to see so many entities collaborating to make this exciting project a reality. The completion of this project not only enhances our two communities, but brings them together to provide yet another opportunity for family recreation. This project reaches beyond our communities by providing an outstanding venue to enhance tourism for the area."

Councilor Bart Rierson was not able to attend the presentation of the award, a special presentation was done at the CPRD Board of Directors meeting on Jan. 26th, and another presentation will be occurring during the City Council meeting, starting at 7 p.m. on February 6.

The last time CPRD and these two city governments received this award was in 2011. Then the Newberg School District was also a recipient.
