CPRD Camellia Festival Fun Run



Race starts 9 a.m. Saturday, April 14th

Register now for the 5K or 10K CPRD Camellia Festival Fun Run. Registration is online only through eclecticedgeracing.com. Results will also be posted there.

Our fun run begins in the heart of Historic Downtown Newberg. Enjoy the surrounding mountain views and peaceful neighborhoods as the 5k and 10k courses wind through Newberg on this mostly flat elevation course.

Age groups 10 & Under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & Over

Prizes will be awarded to the first male and female finishers in each five-year age group in both the 5K and 10K.

In celebration of the Camellia Festival, the first 100 registrants will receive a potted, one-gallon Camellia. Cool door prizes will also be awarded.

After the race, enjoy the Camellia Festival at the Chehalem Cultural Center after you finish, for refreshments and entertainment.

Parking
Chehalem Cultural Center is located at 415 East Sheridan Street. Free parking is available in the parking lot behind the cultural center, on Sherman Street. Free parking is also available in the public lot on Hancock and Blaine Streets, across from Newberg Public Library. Free street parking is also available.

Newberg Middle School Track and Field (NMSTF)


Chehalem Park and Recreation District is offering the Newberg Middle School Track and Field (NMSTF) program this spring.

Practice begins March 12th and will be two or three times per week, depending on the meet schedule. Practices will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Newberg High School track.


Meets will start the first week of April and will run through mid-May. There will be one meet per week. Meets are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.


Coaches are needed for the following events.


  • Sprints (Girls' 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 100 m Hurdles)
  • Sprints (Boys' 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 100 m Hurdles)
  • Relays (Girls and Boys 4 x 100 m, 4 x 400 m)
  • Throws (Girls and Boys' Shot, Turbo Javelin, and Discus)
  • Jumps (Girls and Boys' High Jump and Long Jump)

Tiger Cub Basketball begins Jan 7

Register now for the second session of Tiger Cub Basketball, scheduled to begin Jan 7 at Crater Elementary School.

Tiger Cub Basketball is designed for the youngest of players, in grades K-2. Students will have a fun-filled hour of dribbling, shooting, passing, teamwork, and camaraderie under the direction of Ed McCabe, each Saturday thru February 4.

Class sessions at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. have openings with an early registration fee of $35.00 in-district and $45.00 out-of-district if registered before Dec 31. Tiger Cub’s regular registration fee of $46.00 in-district, $55.00 out-of-district begins on Dec 31. Each participant will receive a basketball the last day of camp.

Basketball Officials Wanted


CPRD is looking for good people to serve as basketball officials for adult, middle school, and youth leagues. Games are during the week and weekends starting mid November thru early March. Application deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday, November 17th.

Pay is $12 to $35 per game.

Sign up for Soccer


It’s time to register for fall soccer!

Registration is open for grades K – 6 until Aug. 8th. Early registration discount is available through Aug. 1st.

Registration for middle school students is open through Sept. 9th.

You can register online at www.cprdnewberg.org, by phone at (503) 537-2909, or in person at Chehalem Aquatic and Fitness Center.

Soccer is the most popular sports activity at CPRD. This year, depending on how many players register, CPRD aims to break out the following leagues:

• Kindergarten
• First grade
• Second grade
• Third and fourth grades (together)


Interested in coaching?

Interested in coaching? A mandatory coaches’ meeting will be held Aug. 15th at 6 p.m. at CRPD Administration Office. Additionally, persons interested in coaching K – 2 must attend a training meeting Aug. 17th, and persons interested in coaching grades 3 – 6 must attend a training meeting on Aug. 22nd – the time and place will be announced at the coaches’ meetings.

Register now for Sunday Football Clinic


The Sunday Football Clinic is underway now, but it's not too late to join in. This is a fun-filled football clinic for grades 3-8 for the 2011-2012 school year. Football techniques, skill development, and agility drills will be featured. Clinics are instructed by TVYFL and NHS coaches. Held 2 - 3:30 p.m. Free.

Newberg Youth Football Meeting for Parents & Prospective Coaches

When: 6 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011
Where: Newberg High School Commons

Parents of youth football players and anyone interested in coaching are encouraged to attend this important information meeting for Newberg Youth Football. This program is seeking coaches, especially at the 3rd and 4th grade level. It is important to attend even if you are just considering coaching. Questions are welcome. There will be door prizes.

Starting this season, all local youth football participants from 3rd to 8t grade will play in the Tualatin Valley Youth Football League. This is a Chehalem Park and Recreation District program. Early football registration opens April 1st and ends May 15th. Registration closes June 15th. Online registration must be completed at www.newbergyouthfootball.com.

Junior Tiger Basketball Games for January 8th at Newberg High School have been moved. Their new locations are
  • Boys' 5th & 6th grade moved to Mountain View Middle School.
  • Girls' 5th & 6th grade moved to Chehalem Armory at 620 North Morton Street.
All games times remain the same.

Texas Hold'em football fundraiser this weekend


The 2nd Annual Texas Hold'em Tournament is Saturday, Sept. 18th at the Chehalem Armory. Proceeds benefit Newberg Youth Football. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and cards fly at 6:30 p.m.

Buy-in is $25; re-buys are $20.
There is a 96 player maximum.
You must be 21 years or older to attend.
Register at the door.
Cash and prize winnings.
Food, beer, wine and pop will be available.
A courtesy van will be available for home delivery.

Soccer season kicks off Sept. 11th


Soccer is the most popular sport in our district, with 650 players. Saturday, Sept. 11, CPRD soccer fields at Renne and Jaquith parks will be packed with 46 games of nonstop soccer action. Come for all or part.

Extreme League plays the Jamboree. All others begin regular league play.

Soccer Officials to Meet Sept. 2


Officials are needed for youth and middle school games this fall. Chehalem Valley Officials Association will be sponsoring its fall soccer officials meeting this Thursday, Sept 2, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Chehalem Park and Recreation District Office 125 S Elliott Rd in Newberg. All new and returning officials’ high school age and older are encouraged to attend this meeting and training session. For more information contact CPRD @ 503-537-2909

Football Officials to Meet Sept 1


Officials high school age and older are needed for youth games in the area. Experienced and new officials are welcome as training will be provided.

Chehalem Valley Officials Association will be conducting its fall football officials meeting Wednesday Sept 1th 6:00pm at Chehalem Park and Recreation District main office 125 S Elliott Road in Newberg.
