Newberg Community Foundation Donates to Dundee Skate Park

CPRD extends a big THANK YOU to the Newberg Community Foundation for the generous donation of $1,500 toward the creation of the Dundee Skate Park.

Project costs are estimated at $80,000. The goal of the CPRD Dundee Skate Park Committee is to raise $18,000. So far, the committee has raised about $10,000 through bottle and can drives, art auctions, dances, community service and T-shirt sales. The committee has also received in-kind donations for concrete and excavation, the Newberg Rotary Club donated a piece of equipment, and the Dundee Farmers' Market donated $200.

Mark your calendars for the ribbon-cutting ceremony slated for Sunday, Sept. 12th.

For more information or to make a contribution, email dundeeskatepark@verizon.net.

The committee is currently seeking a landscaper to donate services. Call Jim McMaster at (503) 209-2222.

Sneak Peek at the New CPRD Website

We'll be giving a sneak peek at our website redesign during Old Fashioned Festival. Stop by our booth and watch the video that will appear on the homepage. We'll also be giving demonstrations intermittently throughout the festival.

The new website will launch this fall. We're pretty excited about it and hope you will be, too!

Name These People, Win a Prize

Stop by our booth at Old-Fashioned Festival Thursday through Sunday and take a shot at winning a prize. We've got some photographs from years past of folks involved in Chehalem Park & Rec activities. See how many you can identify. You could win an 18-hole round of golf at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course, a pass for four people to a public swim at the Aquatic Center, or another cool CPRD prize.

(This photo is just one from the contest. You cannot win the prize by naming the people in it online, but if you do know who they are, you're welcome to write it in the comments for bragging rights!)

CPRD Paves Blaine St. to Ewing Young Park

CPRD paved Blaine Street from West 9th Street Thursday, smoothing the way for travelers to Ewing Young Historical CPRD Park. This stretch of road had been dirt and gravel until now.

Ewing Young Historical Park is home to a 12-hole Disc Golf course, Bicycle Motorcross (BMX) Track, skate park, and the future dog park, which is being built at the entrance to the park. (Drive down the newly paved road and you can get a peek at the progress.)

The District has long wanted to do this in order to reduce dust raising during dry months and make a safer, more pleasant trip to the park. Because the park is frequented by bicyclists and skateboarders, this will benefit more travelers than just automobile drivers.

Crater Park Concession Restroom Building Dedicated

A belated formal dedication ceremony was held for the concessions and restroom building at Darnell Wright Sports Complex on Thursday, June 17 on Field #3.

The dedication plaque was unveiled, permanently affixed to the outside wall of the building. Director Mike Ragsdale and Parks Supervisor Jim McMaster spoke briefly. A BBQ was served to our generous volunteers.

This facility was constructed largely by volunteers who donated their time, labor and professional expertise. The cost for the building was approximately $74,291 for materials, permits, and engineering. To build this building today without donations would likely exceed $200,000.

The building opened for business in September, 2009. Until that time, a trailer and portable restrooms served during the games.
