If you come to the Adult Enrichment Center on a Tuesday or a Friday morning, you should consider bringing your pool cue with you. Last week the center received a wonderful present from one of our volunteers - a gorgeous little pool table to complement our Olhausen tournament-grade table.
We have many wonderful people who play pool with us on a regular basis. They do a great job of making sure that everyone gets to play, and everyone gets help if they need it. But even the most patient pool player will start to get a little restless while waiting to rotate 12 people on one table. Jackie Hedges and Don Olesen had a solution. Thanks in large part to their efforts, the center now has a second pool table.
I started playing pool here about two years ago. It took a long time before I finally got a guest of ours to accept my invitation to play a game. Lillian had never played pool before and was not convinced that this would be something that she would be interested in doing. It literally took months of playing by myself before she agreed to play. It took half of one game for her to decide that this game was something that she enjoyed. We have not been able to get her to leave ever since. I, for one, could not be happier.
What started off as a one-man show has quickly grown into a program full or character - and characters. Jackie didn’t just donate a pool table to the Adult Enrichment Center. She gave us the capacity to include new friends in the game that we love to play. Thank you, Jackie. For anyone wondering, Lillian still plays pool with us. In fact, she beat me three times today.
