This presentation will cover how Medicare works, supplemental insurance options, assistance for people with low income and resources, how the Affordable Care Act improves Medicare, and how to prevent, detect and report Medicare waste, fraud and abuse. This session will be led by a Certified Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA) and Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Counselor. The SHIBA program is a statewide network of trained counselors who educate, assist, and serve as advocates for people with Medicare.  SMP is also a federal program that works to prevent Medicare waste, fraud and abuse.
